Title: AFTERLIFE

Other Books by Author:
EVERNIGHT, STARGAZER, HOURGLASS
Publication Date: March 1, 2011
My Rating: 3/5-- Mixed feelings
One Word Plot: Vampires
Good if...you're a fan of the EVERNIGHT series
Destiny awaits Bianca and Lucas . . . Bianca and Lucas have always believed they could endure anything to be together. When a twist of fate not only transforms Bianca into a wraith but also turns Lucas into a vampire—the very creature he spent his life hunting—they are left reeling.  Haunted by his powerful need to kill, Lucas can turn to only one place for help . . . Evernight Academy. Bianca is determined to remain with him. But with the vampire leader of Evernight waging a war against wraiths, her former home has become the most dangerous place she could be, despite the new powers her ghostly transformation has given her.  A battle between wraiths and vampires looms, and Bianca and Lucas face a terrifying new reality. They've overcome every obstacle life has thrown at them, but is their love strong enough to survive the challenges after life?

My Thoughts:  As the fourth and last novel in the EVERNIGHT series, AFTERLIFE brings Bianca and Lucus' story to a close and overall I'm satisfied enough with the ending.  3/5 stars satisfied.  But...this fourth novel was my least favorite of them all.  Sure, all the secondary characters were great, as usual.  Vic and Balthazar, especially.  But where this novel turned up a little lack-luster was Bianca and Lucus's relationship.  Lucus spend 90% of the novel depressed/self-loathing and Bianca spent 100% of it worrying over him.  There just wasn't the same passionate, heart-stopping moments present in this novel as in the past 3.  The suspense and action and mystery and comic relief were all present, but the romance wasn't up to par.  I will say the last couple pages sort of made up for it, but still Claudia Gray kind of gave Lucus his easy out instead of making him come to grips with who he really was.

All in all, I highly recommend this series.  Especially the first novel.  And great news, Claudia Gray plans to release a separate EVERNIGHT novel that follows Balthazar's story.  I really can't wait for that one!!!

It sound overly romantic. Is it, overly romantic? I don't know if I can handle that right now.

Romance is a staple in Vampire lore: However, Anne Rice is great if you enjoy sarcastic charm. Read every book in which Lestate is the main character, they aren't over-loaded with romance. P.S. Character names are very subjective, you have what the author wrote and what your mind remembers; so forgive any misspelling. My question: Where do you come up with these release dates?

Jenny--what do you define overly romantic as? what books did you find overly romantic? b/c romanance is ususally what I want most in a novel, so it's hard for me to answer that question.

Lone Wolf--release dates? Well, I find publication dates on amazon if that's what you're asking. ??

When the main story line is about something else but there's romance then I'm fine but if there is no storyline and the conflict is the romance, then I become irritated. Does that make sense?

Yeah that makes sense. I think the story line has been pretty good throughout these novels. It was probably best in the 1st two. Things a bit weird in the third and fourth.
